random acts of kindness really give me joy... especially if I was the one doing it. ;)
So, I went to easter mass @ UP yesterday, since I had to drop off my friend back to Alabang in the morning first, I was only able to attend the 10am mass instead of the dawn/easter morning mass.
(The friend I was referring to just recently survived almost a month of bed-rest from pregnancy, so I preggy-sat over the holy weekend since her boyfriend (also a close friend of mine) had to go to the province over the weekend. She can't come with him since she may not be able to handle the long travel yet due to her condition and given that is was a holiday weekend. ... I had to bring her home 'coz I can't stay with her in Alabang because there is no internet in her apartment and I needed to complete research papers for school and work. But I digress... moving on...)
Anyways, since I was alone, I got to my usual seat at the chapel, i.e. the edge of one of the pews on the last row around the church. The pew wasn't full so there was still space for maybe 1 more person. And so, an elderly lady and her (let's just call her) yaya approached, I gave way so that the lola can seat while the yaya stood behind her.
As the mass was proceeding, I realized that the lola apparently was with other family members including a chubby (probably around) 8-year old apo. There were a lot of people in the church especially those standing at the back, and if you've been at the UP chapel, you'll know its architecture and realize what I mean when I say that there are a lot of people in attendance and standing. [Heck, it was already the prayer before the readings when the massgoers from the previous mass were able to vacate the church.]
Moving on, during the homily, the chubby boy approached his lola and sat at the edge/arm rest of the pew, I noticed that he was already sweating and I was already feeling bad for him, when I looked back, I saw the other family members scattered at strategic locations at the back side, the mom, dad, and a younger (toddler) child. I would have stood right there and then but I felt weird standing up during the priest's sermon so I waited until he finished and at the same time as when we were asked to stand, I offered the seat to the yaya just after the mother gave the toddler to the yaya so that she could let the boy seat at the back rest of the pew. The mother did not see me offer the seat at the time, but the father did (yeah, for some reason, mom and dad were not standing side by side at the back, tsk tsk)... and so the dad, whispered a quiet thank you as I chose a spot to stand at near him at the back. I just smiled and said it was nothing. :D Apparently, there was still space on pew enough for the chubby boy and his similarly chubby toddler brother were both able to sit. ;) I think the other people on the pew squeezed themselves in and gave space for them. That's cool.
What made me happier even more though was that during the wishing of peace to each other, the mother approached me (on her way to the lola and her kids), smiled and said thank you. Again, I just smiled and nodded and said "okay lang po".
Which was true, I have already been driving for around 2 hours beforehand (to and fro Alabang) before that, so I really welcome the muscle stretching standing can bring. ;)
It's just so cool 'coz I wasn't expecting them to be uber appreciative. Most people aren't. ;)
wala lang, ;) I just thought I'd share something that "made my day" yesterday. :D
